Post-secondary Student Learning Outcomes
Updated: 23 February 2017
In the interests of providing quality degree programming for students, CAQC is working with institutions and other stakeholders to foster the use and assessment of learning outcomes.
Alberta Forum on Post-secondary Student Learning Outcomes
The Alberta Forum on Post-secondary Student Learning Outcomes took place at Mount Royal University in Calgary on 18 May 2016. Building on existing initiatives within the Alberta post-secondary system, the goal of this event was to focus on and broaden the discussion of the extent to which establishing and assessing student learning outcomes can enhance student learning. The forum was jointly organized by the Alberta Council on Admissions and Transfer, the Campus Alberta Quality Council, and the Ministry of Advanced Education. It was also supported by the Provosts and Senior Academic Officers of the Alberta post-secondary institutions.
As a truly Alberta-wide forum, its participants included approximately 120 attendees from the 35 Alberta ACAT member institutions, members of CAQC and ACAT, Advanced Education staff, and post-secondary students. Institutional representatives from each of the six Campus Alberta sectors were present, as well as First Nations institutions and private institutions.
As a follow-up to this important event, we have posted below the Forum report, which includes all of the presentations, as well as additional reading resources, and a link to videos of the entire Forum.

Summary of Alberta’s response to CMEC Learning Outcomes Survey
In Advanced Education’s work through the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), a national questionnaire about learning outcomes was circulated to publicly funded post-secondary institutions in Alberta in July 2016.
The summary report on Alberta is available below. More information will be available once Advanced Education receives the national data-set that will be collated by the CMEC Secretariat. The ministry will then use the pan-Canadian data to pursue a conversation about learning outcomes in Alberta within the context of post-secondary education in Canada.
More resources will be added to this page in the future.
